Purpose: To bring to interviews as a leave-behind when you are asked for your references

Quick Tips for Writing a References Listing:

The document below is an example references listing in the format to be brought to interviews with you and left when asked for your references. Never send your references with your resume. Always wait until the interview. We recommend that you include at least six references who will be able to comment on various aspects of your career, your strengths, and your accomplishments. Make certain to always ask the people before including them on your references sheet! This is important. A good way to phrase the question is to say “Would you be willing to serve as one of my references, and if so, do you feel you would be able to give me a good reference?” Rather than just listing names and numbers, it is a good idea to include a few sentences indicating the relationship you have with the person and what he or she may be able to comment on.
