Career Change Resume Sample

Sample of a career change resume written to help an administrative services manager transition to a new industry

Changing careers, whether that change involves moving to a new profession or to a new industry, can be a challenge. A well-written career change resume that emphasizes your transferable skills and strengths while downplaying industry-specific language is essential.

This example career change resume illustrates how that can be accomplished during an industry change, by strategically wording the resume in a way that downplays industry while showcasing the qualifications that would be transferable to other industries. For example, managing P&L, leading change initiatives, hiring and training staff, handling customer relations, and other similar skills that are essential for administrative management roles.

Note that we didn’t hide any industry information. Instead, in this resume we shifted attention to qualifications and accomplishments that would apply to other industries and downplayed specific industry expertise. This particular client thought that he may be interested in working in a healthcare-related industry, so we left in some of the relevant keywords for that industry. However, he did not want to work int he veterinary industry again, so we deemphasized those keywords.

A career change resume is among the most challenging to write of all resumes. Each one must be very unique and specific to the individual circumstances. This resume is protected by copyright and can not be legally copied. But to do so would be counterproductive, anyhow. To make a successful career change, you should take steps to have every advantage on your side, and that includes having your resume professionally written. It will be our honor to help you with that! Receiving a quote for our services is easy. Just complete this brief form.

Very good service; I was impressed with Marie's level of knowledge when asking HR related questions. I love the resume! Its format helps to highlight the important aspects of my skill sets and accomplishments.

I wanted to let you know that in an interview today (large project management/consulting firm), I was complemented on the quality of my resume. The interviewer said it was one of the best he's seen. I followed up with the "thank you for the interview letter" which, is excellent as well. I thought you should know what an impact your work is making in my career search and I'm grateful that out of all the choices that I had, I selected your firm (and you). Anyway, it appears that I'm on my way, thanks to your ability to put my career and value proposition on 2 sheets of paper!

This is just a short note to let you know that I have been offered the position of Director of Educational and Administrative Technology for the XXXX XXXX XXXX...Feedback from some of the members of the selection committee revealed that they were "blown away" by the resume. Actually, they only had me in for a single interview. This leads me to believe that this particular employer took great credence on the ability of the resume to communicate in my absence. I consider your work very instrumental in both the success of landing the job, and in the ability to successfully assert a salary requirement that is significantly higher for this particular area of the country...You can be sure that you are a permanent part of my electronic rolodex. If anyone ever needs a top-quality resume, you can be sure that your name will be mentioned.

I just want to let you know that this week I had four interviews and 3 job offers! One is with my mentor's company, XXXXX, another with XXXXX, and a third with XXXXX. The salary ranges are from $80-$100k. I'm deliberating now about my options, and will start "negotiations" this afternoon. Two job offers came on the same day (yesterday). Three of the interviews came from my on line responses to ads. The XXXX interview was arranged by my mentor who suggested I apply for a position. This all happened (the callbacks) between 1-3 days after I posted my resume. The VP at XXXXX who interviewed me said that he reads thousands of resumes, and that mine was really exceptional. He was talking about your work. Thank you!

(Received a few days later from the same client...)

I start August 4th as an assistant PM working first on a 1.5 billion (with a "b") dollar proposal, then off to the job site in September, working either on the XXXXXX renovation project or various cultural projects with musuems, libraries, etc. in XXXXX. Starting salary $90k with a review and increase to $95 by the end of the year. If I finish my PMP and LEED certifications, I will get an additional $3k for each certification.

I'm so happy that this happened so quickly and that it's such a great job! As I mentioned, the reason they called is because of the resume. They were also impressed by the biography, and apparently the interview went well too :) Thanks again for everything. I couldn't have done it without you.
