Quick Resume Writing Tip: This sample executive resume illustrates that a resume can be longer than one or two pages if the content is compelling and relevant. Page length of an executive resume is an area of confusion to many people. The most important factor is that you use only as many pages necessary to convince the reader that you are an ideal candidate. Every word and element must have a purpose. Two or three pages are generally expected and acceptable for an experienced executive candidate. Three pages can also be appropriate for some experienced candidates in technical positions. The ability to present your qualifications on two or three pages demonstrates your ability to communicate clearly and focus on the relevant. If your writing is concise and your achievements compelling, and three pages are required to present your key qualifying skills and achievements, use three pages. Just remember that with each page you reduce the chances that the resume will be read thoroughly. While there are always exceptions to the rule, more than three pages are rarely necessary or effective.

Hi Michelle. Since our mailing,I have had six phone interviews with recruiters leading to being a candidate for Chairman of a {Name of State} based company, CEO for a {Name of State} Company and being introduced to two private equity firms by another recruiter for Board Directorships. Two others want to introduce me to private equity firms they partner with for proprietary deals. Finally, {Name of Recruiter} of {Name of Firm} out of Silicon Valley said the resume was among the best five he has ever seen from both a format and content standpoint (maybe all 5 are your clients !)...On the VC side, I received a couple Email responses. I thought you might want to know all of this. Thanks for the great work.

My opportunity search is going reasonably well. I have had about 6 agencies submit me to about 10 openings. Half of those agencies I had not worked with previously and had to go interview with them to prove that I can dress myself correctly etc. All of them were pleased with the new resume. One just couldn't stop saying "wow".

Two of the agencies asked for info on where I had it done and I gave them the pertinent details. I believe they were interested in using your services for some of their clients vs having someone in house or local, especially after seeing the spectacular job you did on mine.

Of the 10 openings they submitted my resume to, I have had one two-hour interview (managers in a different city) and three company site interviews. I believe I have a good chance of receiving an offer from the last one I did of these on Friday.

In addition to the agencies, I have researched approximately 40 companies that looked interesting and submitted my resume directly to them via email (75%) and fax (25%). For handful that were especially interesting, I spent some extra effort on company research and customized the blind-submittal letter to target them and also found operations managers email addresses. Bypassed the HR department and careers@/jobs@ generic buckets. None of these direct contacts had a relevant position advertised on their website or any of the job boards . . . Of all of these, one of them has responded favorably and has given me two rounds of interviews thus far. They are in the process of drafting a contract offer, which I hope to see soon. This was a company that didn't even know they were in need of someone like me before my resume/letter came floating into their view. :-)

Very happy with the results thus far. I'll definitely keep plugging your services when appropriate in the future.

(Then several days later from above client)

Just dropping you a quick note to let you know that I have received the first contract draft for my new position. It will be a one year contract at a leading Canadian fixed-wireless internet service provider. Decent rate, decent people, interesting work all await me next week. This was a place that I had mentioned previously that didn't have any positions of this type advertised at all, and didn't consciously know they needed my help, before the wonderful new resume landed in front of them. I attribute my landing of this contract almost 100% to the super job you did on my resume. I had the raw materials, but you sure got them to "clean up nice" :-)
