Sample Resume for Blue Collar Jobs

Purpose: Example of a resume written for an automotive technician/mechanic

Quick Resume Writing Tip: This sample resume illustrates a technique that you can use when your background includes many positions in which you did the same or a similar type of work. Rather than listing out the details of each position for this automotive technician / mechanic, in this example resume we used a twist on the functional format and listed his major qualifications and achievements in a summary section that immediately followed the profile. The work chronology was listed just below the summary, followed by the education section. This strategy and format, known as a quasi-functional format, was remarkably effective. Although this person was moving to a new location where he didn’t know anyone, within weeks he had multiple job offers.

Last Monday I received a call from a low level recruiter that had read my old resume on the Institute of Packaging Engineers job site. She was looking for a candidate to fill a Packaging Engineer position that paid $60-$70,000 per year. I emailed her my new resume, the one you created, and immediately received a call from her boss. The boss was a much more savvy, high powered, recruiter. She had a much higher position in mind for me...The interview went very well. My second interview, this time with the CEO and the directors of the companies two current divisions is scheduled for this Wednesday...The position is for a Business Development Manager to start a new division. Once sales hit $4 million dollars the position will become the director of the division and expansion will begin in earnest. The salary for this position starts at $120,000 per year. I just can not thank you enough for the all the hard work you did to create such an outstanding resume and set of support letters. The recruiter received the recruiter letter and resume. The company received the resume and the thank you letter. Things are looking good to land the perfect job for my experience and aspirations.

My opportunity search is going reasonably well. I have had about 6 agencies submit me to about 10 openings. Half of those agencies I had not worked with previously and had to go interview with them to prove that I can dress myself correctly etc. All of them were pleased with the new resume. One just couldn't stop saying "wow".

Two of the agencies asked for info on where I had it done and I gave them the pertinent details. I believe they were interested in using your services for some of their clients vs having someone in house or local, especially after seeing the spectacular job you did on mine.

Of the 10 openings they submitted my resume to, I have had one two-hour interview (managers in a different city) and three company site interviews. I believe I have a good chance of receiving an offer from the last one I did of these on Friday.

In addition to the agencies, I have researched approximately 40 companies that looked interesting and submitted my resume directly to them via email (75%) and fax (25%). For handful that were especially interesting, I spent some extra effort on company research and customized the blind-submittal letter to target them and also found operations managers email addresses. Bypassed the HR department and careers@/jobs@ generic buckets. None of these direct contacts had a relevant position advertised on their website or any of the job boards . . . Of all of these, one of them has responded favorably and has given me two rounds of interviews thus far. They are in the process of drafting a contract offer, which I hope to see soon. This was a company that didn't even know they were in need of someone like me before my resume/letter came floating into their view. :-)

Very happy with the results thus far. I'll definitely keep plugging your services when appropriate in the future.

(Then several days later from above client)

Just dropping you a quick note to let you know that I have received the first contract draft for my new position. It will be a one year contract at a leading Canadian fixed-wireless internet service provider. Decent rate, decent people, interesting work all await me next week. This was a place that I had mentioned previously that didn't have any positions of this type advertised at all, and didn't consciously know they needed my help, before the wonderful new resume landed in front of them. I attribute my landing of this contract almost 100% to the super job you did on my resume. I had the raw materials, but you sure got them to "clean up nice" :-)

It was hard to accept change when I'm so invested into the version I had prepared myself. Without question the change has been a benefit and I'm proud to stand on it....The new version is much clearer, more organized and significantly easier to read. I have great confidence it displays my abilities best. I hope to be back in a three or four years when I have more experience under my belt and I'm ready to move to another position.

My service with Laura was outstanding. she did such an amazing job on my documents. At first I was skeptical and concerned about the price.. but in the end it is worth every penny. No suggestions at this point just keep up the great work. I am blown away at how amazing, well written and professional my resume documents look. Definitely will recommend to all who will listen!
